Part 6 – Word of Wisdom and Word of Knowledge Gifts
I am putting these two together because usually they do go together….Not always, but most of the time, if you have the Word of Wisdom gift you will also have the Word of Knowledge Gift. (I suggest reading the Holy Trinity and the Image of us, to learn more about knowledge and wisdom)
We all have basic knowledge that grows into understanding and then wisdom; and having knowledge and wisdom can go with both gifts, however, these gifts have nothing to do with your own knowledge and wisdom, they are letting/allowing the Holy Spirit to speak thru you…hence, why the Gift is the Word of Wisdom and Word of Knowledge.
Let’s start with; understanding what Word means……
We already know that knowledge is information that you learn and retain as you grow in the world and in the Lord and this in turn turns to understanding and then Wisdom…..but all of this goes into our brains/minds, whereas the word is spoken or written.
Definition of Word:
“A single distinct meaningful element of speech or writing, used with others or sometimes alone to form a sentence; a command, password, or signal; used to express; a sound or combination of sounds that has meaning.”
(This is just the basic description; you can find more detail online with Webster dictionary)
Normally we can’t know anything if we aren’t taught something first. Teachers teach, preachers preach, and the LORD Speaks…..They are all using words to express their knowledge along with understanding and wisdom. (Sometimes)
Both of these gifts are similar in usage and both can be granted to a believer at the moment of salvation or you can grow in these over the course of your journey with the Lord.
There is a difference in knowledge and wisdom themselves, but the gift is by word so the gifts are pretty similar, let’s look at the differences….
The Gift Word of Knowledge….
People with this gift are not using their own knowledge, but actually it is the Holy Spirit’s knowledge. When you have this gift you can be in any situation and you will know exactly what to say, when to say it, how to say it, understand what is going on, and speak without your own control….but it’s perfectly timed.
Have you or someone you know, know something and yet don’t know how you/they know it? This falls under this gift. Sometimes the words will come out of your mouth before you have time to think, because you know what to say…..
I myself have experienced this at times, and I have thought to myself,’ How did I know the answer to that? I don’t really know anything about this subject’, I have answered I.Q. questions that I wasn’t guessing on, I knew the answer but I honestly didn’t know how I knew the answer.
Some people (skeptics) will put this down as, ‘Oh you learned that on TV, or reading something….You just didn’t realize it was imprinted on your mind.’ I can tell you from experience that some of things I know, I didn’t learn them, I instinctively knew them. I’ve learned to ignore the skeptics because I know they don’t understand the power of God.
This doesn’t happen all the time for me, but as I have grown in the Lord and gotten older I have found that I know more and more….
The Holy Spirit has all the knowledge in the world so when He grants you this gift, you will find yourself knowing things that no one taught you, you have not read anywhere, or even watched it on TV. You even know historical facts….
It really is an amazing gift to be blessed with, because the more you know, the more you understand and grow in the ways of the Lord and the world.
The Gift of Word of Wisdom
You might think there isn’t a difference in the word of knowledge and the word of wisdom….but there actually is….because knowledge and wisdom are different.
The Word of Wisdom is different in the respect that you are allowing the Holy Spirit to speak thru you or tell you what to say at that exact moment. (There is no hesitation) The word of knowledge allows the Holy Spirit to grant you the knowledge to know something, but the word of wisdom is Him speaking thru you. (You are always aware that it is the Holy Spirit that is giving you this wisdom)
We’ve all, I’m sure at times been in a conversation where someone says something and you get stumped or don’t know what to say, and then you dwell on it for days on end thinking of the answers your should have said……
When or if you are granted this gift of wisdom, you will never be stumped by a question about the bible, you will know what scripture pertains to what questions are asked and how to answer people through facts and common sense. Not only that, you will be able to speak the wisdom of the Holy spirit at a seconds notice….
Nothing will rattle this person pertaining to Life, God, and the Bible who have this gift. You may also be granted a gift of memorization of the bible with this gift.
Example – you are talking with someone and the verse comes to you instantly and you can say it word for word. This is a part of the Gift the Word of Wisdom.
These people allow (give control) to the Holy Spirit to work/speak through them, and this gift allows them to understand the bible, people, situations, and the world. (Sometimes young people are granted this gift when they get saved, so you don’t need to have led a full life)
Another example is actually in the Bible…..
“But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you” Matthew 10:19-20
This gift grants a person the ability to use the wisdom and knowledge of the Holy Spirit without the experience. In other words, you do not have to have experience or even know someone who did or does have experience, in order to have/use the gift of wisdom. People with the gift usually learn from other people’s mistakes and never make those same mistakes.
Do you have one of these gifts or both?
Both of these gifts can and usually go along with the Gift of Prophecy and preachers will usually have one or both of these gifts. For only with the Words can you reach people who are lost.
Every saved believer is granted these two gifts as times when we are witnessing to others. Sometimes, we just use our own testimony, but there are other times, you find yourself talking to someone and the words start coming from you that you aren’t sure why and it’s because the Holy Spirit knows how to reach that person and is using your mouth to say what He wants.
People who are ‘Soul Winners’ will have the Gift of Wisdom because the wisdom of the Holy Spirit makes people start questioning their lives and the meaning of life and death…….and the road to salvation always starts with questions…..
Isn’t it amazing and wonderful of our Lord to grant us more gifts as we grow in Him? How He gifts us with such things so we can be of use in glorifying Him.
